DESCRIPTION
GlancePlus is a powerful and easy-to-use online performance diag‐
nostic tool for HP-UX systems. It consists of two components: a
Motif-based program, "gpm", and a character mode program, "glance".
The combination allows you to use the appropriate tool for your job.
With gpm you get the power and ease-of-use a Motif-based tool can
bring. With glance you can run on almost any terminal or workstation,
over a serial interface and relatively slow data communication links,
and with lower resource requirements. Either component provides the
same rich set of performance information available through HP's
Measurement Interface (MI).
The gpm program provides both graphical and textual information for
system administrators and others who need help troubleshooting a
performance problem. Advanced alarm and advisor capabilities make it
an effective monitoring tool as well.
Options-nosave This option overrides gpm's default of saving a user's con‐
figuration at the next exit. If you would like to ensure
that a particular user enters gpm in the same state at each
start up, include the -nosave option in a gpm startup
script.
-rpt rptname
This option allows you to specify one or more additional
report windows to be displayed when you start gpm.By
default, GlancePlus displays the windows that were open at
the last gpm exit. Following are the various report names
that may be used for rptname:
AlarmHistory ApplicationCpuGraphs ApplicationList
CpuByProcessor CpuGraph CpuReport
DceGlobalActivity DceProcessList DiskGraph
Disk Report DiskQueueGraphs GlobalInfo
IoByDisk IoByFileSystem IoByLogicalVolume
Main MemoryGraph MemoryReport
MemoryUsageGraph NetworkByInterface NetworkByCardGraph

NfsGlobalActivity PrmCpuGraphs PrmGroupList
PrmMemGraphs ProcessList ResourceHistory
SwapSpace SymptomHistory SymptomStatus
SystemAttributes SystemCalls SystemTablesGraph
SystemTablesReport ThreadList TransactionTracking

Options-sharedclr This option causes gpm to use a shared color scheme. While
it disables the ability to configure colors within gpm, it
allows gpm's colors to be configured along with other
applications from a central point and leaves private color
cells available to other applications. Even without this
option, gpm will use a shared color scheme if it fails to
obtain private color cells.
-nice nicevalue
This option causes you to set the nice priority value for
the gpm process. The default nice value is -10 (see man-
page nice(1)).
-lock This option causes gpm to lock both its text and data seg‐
ments into memory. Note that response time may be enhanced
with this option, but there is also the possibility that
you will receive the error "Unable to allocate memory/swap
space". If this happens, you must run GlancePlus without
using this option.
-disks <n>
-kernel <path>
-lfs <n>
-nfs <n>
-pids <n>
These command line options are passed directly into the
midaemon and they control the midaemon's startup parameters
(see midaemon(1)). If the midaemon is already running,
then GlancePlus ignores these options.
Xoptions The gpm program accepts the standard X Toolkit options.
Examples of commonly used options are "-iconic" (start up
iconified), "-bg color" (use specified background color),
and "-display xdisplay" (display on specified X server).
Note that "-fg color" is not accepted, since the window
foreground color is computed by gpm from the background
color. Also note that since help text defaults to black
via a resource set in /var/opt/perf/Gpm, a dark background
should not be used unless the help text resource is also
set to a light color so it will be readable.
EXAMPLES
To run gpm on a display named "wkstationa", enter:
gpm-display wkstationa:0.0
To run gpm so that it does not automatically save configuration changes
on exit, enter:
gpm-nosave
To require shared color usage and add the DiskReport window to those
displayed by gpm at startup, enter:
gpm-sharedclr -rpt DiskReport
