NAME
     volatile - inform the compiler of volatile variables

SYNOPSIS
     volatile

DESCRIPTION
     volatile is a compiler directive that causes the variable(s) associated
     with it not to be affected by the optimizer; that is, memory accesses
     will be done, in the coded sequence, even if they appear to have no side
     effects. Pointers to device registers should always be declared volatile.
