SALOG(4) SALOG(4)

NAME
salog, salog.conf - system administration log

DESCRIPTION
/var/sysadm/salog is the system administration log file. Whenever a
privileged command is run by runpriv(1M), runpriv logs the command that
     was run to salog.

The privilege commands themselves also log errors, warnings, and
     informational messages to the log.

Each line of salog is a semi-colon separated list of fields. The first
field is the date and time that the message was logged. The second field
is a number identifying the type of message: 0 for an error, 1 for a
warning, 2 for a command run by runpriv, or 3 for an informational
     message.

The third field is the process id of the process that logged the message.
The fourth field is the user id, and the fifth field is the host name.
The sixth field is a string identifying the source of the message; this
is typically the name of the privileged command being run.

The seventh field is either the message or the command that was run.

The viewlog(1M) program can be used to view the contents of the log.

/var/sysadm/salog.conf is a configuration file that controls how big
salog can grow before it gets rotated to /var/sysadm/oldsalog and whether
messages to salog also get forwarded to syslogd(1M). This configuration
file is read by /usr/lib/libsalog.so, which is the library containing the
routines that runpriv and the privileged commands use to write to salog.

/var/sysadm/salog.conf is an ASCII file. If it contains a line with the
single word syslog in it, messages to salog will also be sent to syslogd.
By default messages are not sent to syslogd. If salog.conf contains a
line with the string rotsize=size, then the log will be renamed to
/var/sysadm/oldsalog and the previous contents of /var/sysadm/oldsalog
will be lost when the size of salog reaches size bytes. If size is
smaller than 5120, the value 5120 will be used instead. The default
     rotsize is 1048576.
