NAME
itester - ISDN test and development tool

SYNOPSIS
     /usr/etc/itester [-x] -t switch_software_type [ -s spid1 ] [ -S spid2 ] [
     -r rate1 ] [ -R rate2 ] -c calldn1 [ -C calldn2 ]

DESCRIPTION
itester is used during ISDN layer 1 certification testing to turn on the
IOM loop in the hardware.	It can also be used for developing additional
     ISDN stack functionality.

OPTIONS
-x When this is specified, itester is able to establish data links,
register spids, and make and receive calls. If it is not
specified, itester can only control the loopback.	For ISDN layer
1 testing, itester should be started without this option.

     -t switch_software_type
	     switch_software_type must be one of DMS100, NI1, 5ESS, NET3,
	     1TR6, or NTT.

     -s spid1
This option specifies the first SPID. This option is only needed
for the DMS100 and National ISDN 1 (NI1) switch software types.

     -S spid2
This option specifies the second SPID. This option is only
needed for the DMS100 and National ISDN 1 (NI1) switch software
	     types.

     -r rate1
Specifies the connection rate of channel B1. If 56, then the B1
SETUP will be sent asking for a 56kbps connection. If 64 or not
specified, then the B1 SETUP will be sent asking for a 64 kbps
	     connection.

     -R rate2
Specifies the connection rate of channel B2. If 56, then the B2
SETUP will be sent asking for a 56kbps connection. If 64 or not
specified, then the B2 SETUP will be sent asking for a 64 kbps
	     connection.

     -c calldn1
Specifies the phone number to call on channel B1.	This must be
	     specified.

     -C calldn2
Specifies the phone number to call on channel B2.

Use
To use itester during ISDN Layer 1 certification testing, first start
isdnd. Then start itester without the -x option.	During layer 1
testing, the testing technician may ask you to turn on loopback. To turn
on loopback, press '4'. Itester has no other function during Layer 1
     testing.

To use itester for development or testing purposes, do not start isdnd.
Start itester with the -x option.	Enter spids and dns as neccessary.
First build a protocol stack (you may not want any protocol stack, lapd
only, or the entire stack.) To put lapd on the stack, press '8'.	To put
the Q931 modules on the stack, press 'p'.	If you are using a switch
software type that requires 2 spids, then you should also press 'P'. (In
the menu, all lower case letters with an asterisk next to it indicates
that if you press the capital letter, the same action will take place on
     B2.)

Now activate the hardware by pressing 2. This takes the hardware out of
the reset state. If you just want to establish a data link, press 'e'
(or 'E' for B2). If you want to register a spid, press 'i' (or 'I' for
B2). To answer a call on B1, press 'a'. To answer a call on B2, press
'A'. The 'a' option toggle, so if you don't want to answer the call on
B1 anymore, you should press 'a' again.

The main window of itester provides some useful information about what is
going on in the protocol stack. They are not intended for naive ISDN
users; but they are helpful for people who are working with ISDN.
