NAME
hipprobe - probe configured HIPPI interfaces

SYNOPSIS
     $PCP_BINADM_DIR/hipprobe [-v] [hippi[0-N] ...]

DESCRIPTION
hipprobe will check the status of HIPPI interfaces on a system.

hipprobe is typically used within scripts to determine the number of
HIPPI interfaces which are not currently `ready'.	By default hipprobe
will not produce any output, unless there is an error. However, hipprobe
can also be used, with the -v option, to display the status of each HIPPI
interface. Individual HIPPI interfaces can also be given as arguments to
hipprobe to specify which interfaces will be checked.

The HIPPI interfaces are checked in three ways.

     1. The output from hipcntl is parsed to ensure the correct flags are
	  present for the controller.

     2. The output from ifconfig is parsed to ensure the interface is up.

     3. The interface is ping'ed to ensure packets can be transmitted and
	  received by the interface.

hipprobe will return the number of interfaces which were detected to have
problems.	If no problems were detected, then 0 will be returned. On
     error hipprobe will return 255.

For more advanced HIPPI interface problem diagnostics, refer to the
     hipcntl(1m) and hiptest(1m) man pages.

PCP ENVIRONMENT
Environment variables with the prefix PCP_ are used to parameterize the
file and directory names used by PCP. On each installation, the file
/etc/pcp.conf contains the local values for these variables. The
$PCP_CONF variable may be used to specify an alternative configuration
     file, as described in pcp.conf(4).
