NAME
     statd - network status daemon

SYNOPSIS
     statd [-d debug-level]

DESCRIPTION
     Statd is a daemon which co-operates with statd daemons on other hosts to
     provide a host status monitoring service.

     The daemon accepts requests from programs running on the local host (typ-
     ically, lockd(8),	the NFS lock manager) to monitor the status of speci-
     fied hosts.  If a monitored host reboots, the remote daemon will notify
     the local daemon, which in turn will notify the local program(s) which
     requested the monitoring service.	Conversely, if the local host reboots,
     when the statd re-starts, it will notify the hosts which were being moni-
     tored at the time of the crash.

     Error conditions are logged to syslog, using log level LOG_ERR and facil-
     ity LOG_DAEMON.

     Statd daemon should be run by rc(8) after network services and portmap(8)
     have been started, but before any other services which depend on statd
     are run (ie: lockd(8)).

     /usr/include/rpcsvc/sm_inter.x
	    RPC protocol specification for the network status manager (NSM)
	    protocol.
     /var/db/statd.state
	    Record of currently monitored hosts.
     /var/db/statd.status
	    Local server status value.
