GETDTABLESIZE(2)	    BSD Programmer's Manual	      GETDTABLESIZE(2)

NAME
     getdtablesize - get descriptor table size

SYNOPSIS
     #include <unistd.h>

     int
     getdtablesize(void);

DESCRIPTION
     This call is now obsolete. The number of open file descriptors per pro-
     cess is now variable and may be set using setrlimit(2) and extracted us-
     ing getrlimit(2).

     Each process has a file descriptor table which is guaranteed to have at
     least 20 slots. The entries in the descriptor table are numbered with
     small integers starting at 0. The call getdtablesize() returns the size
     of this table.
